Gorillaz to Tour - Virtually
Associated Press
NEW YORK - How does a fictional cartoon group tour? Why virtually, of course.
The Gorillaz, the virtual hip-hop band of rock and rap musicians fronted by2D characters, will hit the road - or information superhighway, anyway - for a one-day online event on Aug. 24.
The band will drop into 12 different destinations by way of www.habbohotel.com , an online virtual community for teens. There, the band members, speaking through their cartoon alter egos, will interact with fans, who will themselves be represented by avatars. Twenty-four lucky participants will receive "backstage" passes to conduct private interviews with each of the band members. The brainchild of Blur's Damon Albarn, the Gorillaz are: Noodle, 2D, Murdoc Nicals and Russel Hobbs. The band's sophomore disc, Demon Days, was released earlier this year.
Each tour stop will take place at a different Habbo Hotel country Web site. The U.S. appearance will begin at 4 p.m. (ET). Since the story broke at 2pm, est, it has been picked up by more than 15 newspaper online sites. These include:
